In looking through various auction catalogs, I see a reference to the Aldrich Revenue Census.

Does anybody know where to get a copy of this? I'm not talking about the Match and Medicine census. I have a copy of that.

This is a different census of revenue stamps.

I have not seen an Aldrich census other than the M&M census. I also do not recall seeing references to a different Aldrich census. I just did a search on the Siegel and Rumsey webpages and don't see any references to an Aldrich census other than for M&Ms. Can you point me to the references to the census? Are they all in Aldrich auctions? Maybe he is citing to his own records. I guess the best place to start would be to contact Michael Aldrich himself.

I cannot speak to his M&M census, but recently in his auctions Aldrich has been making up population numbers for 1st-3rd revenues and modern "reds" and "greens". Some of the numbers he uses to hawk his wares are laughable.

When the number of examples in my collection + the number currently running on ebay = a number almost as large as or greater than his known population claims, I know it's utterly bogus.

It's made up marketing hype rather than any scholarly census research.

Do NOT fall for it and definitely do not base any bid amounts based upon those numbers. If you have questions about scarcity, ask them here (in general terms based upon Scott number if you don't want to give away what you are considering bidding on) and also do searches on ebay, the PF cert search, and Stamp Auction Network.

I asked him when the census is coming out a few months ago. He said sometime over the Summer. It will include a new Beer census the first since Priester in 1979. The population reports he has been showing in his auction catalogue/site for Beer stamps are very imaginative.

Even the m&m census is somewhat suspect since his methodology was somewhat suspect.
