I quit collecting the First Issue revenues decades ago, although from time to time I do find something that intrigues me. My early postage stamp collecting days were filled with trips to the post office to get plate blocks. The image here is cropped from a block of four with a plate number in the lower left corner.

i would appreciate if the First Issue collectors would amplify on this and other first issue plate numbers.

I'm no expert, but I believe that the "10" represents the denomination of the stamp, rather than a plate number.

Hi Ron,

Great item!

Thanks for sharing. Alas I have no plate number singles, or blocks for that matter!

Not sure if it's a plate number or a denomination. I suppose one could check against images of proofs. I have a similar marking on a part perf, but on the other side of the sheet.

I have a couple that I've posted before, but it's been quite a while.

Durland has this to say regarding plate number on the 10˘ Inland Exchange "10F (also 10 in lower left corner, plus inverted 10 in top right corner)."

It appears that the plate numbers on 1st issue revenues were the denomination + a letter, whereas on 2nd and 3rd issue revenues, there was no connection between the plate numbers and the denominations.
