Hi All,

My first post. I started collecting again about 2-3 years ago after about 30 years of being idle. Even though I only collected US in my younger days, I've mostly taken to France of late. I've really enjoyed and learned a great deal from this community resource. So thank you!

Part of the enjoyment for me comes from accurately identifying the stamp. Using many resources, including the Scott catalogues, catalogue de Timbres de France (with Google translate), and several websites including this one, I'm able to identify most French stamps. I still however struggle with France #1 and French Colonies #9. Hopefully I've successfully uploaded 4 pics. The first two I'm reasonably confident are France #1, but am uncertain on the other two - one still on the envelop. I'd be appreciative of any thoughts people might share.

Miles

Postmarks help. The second postmark (2652) is Neuvy-sur-Loire, the fourth postmark (209) is Aubigny-sur-Nère.

1-2 and 4 looks Like nº1 , the 3 Like a colonies , ( lettrage plus épais et impression plus terne ) stronger letter .

Thanks for the comments. I agree, the third one might just be a French Colonies #9, but I'm also concerned it might be a France #54 where someone just trimmed off the edges. A little more margin would be reassuring. Nevertheless, this exercise will help me in the future. Thanks again.

I also have the following stamp of interest. I bought it thinking it was a French Colonies #28, but it's clearly a Type II, not Type I. I don't see where a 75c rose Type II was issued as imperforate in Scott. The Timbres de France catalogue lists a France #83 imperforate for $50,000 euro, but the impression and paper seem off - and really, I'm not going to stumble into a $50K stamp. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It may be a 1887 reprint .
In my yvert the 75c. rose vif, is valued at 85 Euros.
It says the reprints are all type II , imperforate and usually without gum.

As far as the 10c goes ;I don't think it's a perf stamp trimmed. It could of been Yt. no.36 trimmed but the margins are adequate in your stamp to
out-rule the trimmed type...
The 75c Type II was never delivered to the colonies. If it's a Granet reprint it should appear somewhat yellow under a UV light but reacts poorly compared to the other values(eagle types or the green)

Thanks perf12 & codexluminati. It's undoubtedly a reprint. It's certainly brighter under UV light, not sure I would call it somewhat yellow. I recently purchased it on ebay with 4 other stamps.
