Hello,

interesting stamps here:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/USA-Nr-73-83....m1438.l2649

but I wonder what the condition would be called? They are supposed to be not used, so mint. But glued to paper would mean: heavily hinged :) ? Or is it just damaged?

For me it is no difference if there is some paper on the back or a huge, bad applied (dissolvable) hinge?

No gum (since they will have to be soaked off).

Well I guess it is not possible to soak off, otherwise it wouldn't be called "glued". So I think no way to soak off - and which condition then?

As is, all we can say is "stuck on paper"; festgeklebt is correct. Further, these could all be thinned as far as we can tell, or may have been no gum stamps glued onto the paper with something other than gum arabic.

We can't determine gum or stamp condition without removing the stamps. We can describe them by centering or if mint/used and note visible damage. That's it.

EDIT: Since this is on a Köhler sales page, the stamps were and probably still are hinged to the sheet, probably well stuck down, maybe not so much.

This lot would be for the real gambler. Also, some look stained around the edges, which a bidder would have to consider.

Someone paid 88 EUR for it - not me :).
I would have bought it just for interest for some dollars.

One more question about stamps without gum: I know there is a table in Scott specialized about the gums and values, but is there a rule of thumb in general for older US stamps (before 1940 or before 1900): is a mint stamp without gum more or less value than a used stamp, and how much less than a mint with gum? (50% or 20%...)?
