I have quite a few stamp from Iraq. My sister was stationed over there a few years ago with the Air Force and brought me back quite a stash that she picked up at a flea market. There's a book about Iraq stamps in there, too, if I remember correctly. I haven't looked at those for a while. I'll have to dig them out and get those pages made for my WW album.

Was wondering why there are not any American occupation stamp overprints
on Iraqi stamps;like from the British or Turkish occupation time?
That would of been great for collectors!

Perf12 raises an interesting issue about overprinted stamps from the Allied occupation of Iraq. Iraq's postal services remained sovereign, and overprinted stamps would not have served any useful function. All mail to and from the occupying forces would have traveled by regular internal military means, divorced from the sovereign postal services. Mind you, I'm sure somebody must have tried to concoct some interesting philatelic stuff. It has ever been thus.

Some earlier material. And some large (and expensive) gaps ...

Why on earth have some of these come out sideways?!

DAVEG 28 --Thank your sister for her service in Iraq . My oldest daughter was there to teach a few bad guys that the most deathlist thing on the battlefield is a U.S.Marine with her weapon .

I was in Iraq from 2005 until 2009 and one of my tasks was to assess the reconstruction of the Al Mamoon Telecommunications Center which was to also incorporate the Main Post Office. USACE had already spent 13 million dollars of the 24 million dollars allocated for it and the contractor had abandoned the project. I did a review and presented my estimate of 75 million dollars to complete the project to the State Department. They decided to not proceed and it still sits partially constructed and abandoned for the most part. The design was amazing but stunningly impractical for its location, with glass curtainwalls, elevators and escalators, mosaic glass floors. Pie in the sky. As far as I know there is still really no postal system per se. Does anyone have any current information?

Strange. I know for a fact that there was no postal service in Iraq when I moved on in 2009. The following link is to the Iraqi postal service. Nothing really going on.
