That "518b" was also posted on a facebook stamp page; I gave reasons why it was very unlikely to be a deep brown and suggested that all 518b examples need a cert. The image is still there but the discussion seems to have disappeared.

Well, here's an interesting turn of events. Dealer posts outraged comments criticizing other dealer's dishonest approach to selling. Dealer is asked how he knows these items are faked. Dealer replies with angry condescension ("time to get an education, young man...," "DrewM... apparently, you haven't learned a whole lot about what goes on in this business in your 60 years... it's not a question of "think"... it's a matter of known fact...") Finally, dealer's own listings are questioned. Is this the pot calling the kettle black? Stay tuned.

Anyone who replied to me as this "dealer" did to you would go on my Class A Jerk List. Someone never to be dealt with again. Period.

The listing for the 518b has been edited so that the link now takes you to a Scott #85B. No word on what happened to the 518b...

If anyone just looks at what negative feedback he does have would consider going elsewhere.

Sorry, I agree some time this seller has fakes for sale, but not this one.The white frame is too wide and normally this stamp with perforation, is very irregular the space between the perforations and the main design. Here he dind't cut the edge.Old forgery, maybe.

Yikes!... a couple of bidiots going to town on this one.

Low-resolution image? Check!

Jagged edges setting off alarm bells? Check!

Clear evidence of residual perforations on bottom margin? Check!

You would have to be either blind, ignorant, or trustingly naive to be bidding on this item at all.

I've resized their image so you can count the bonus perforation holes included at no additional cost

My over/under # is 6 bonus A holes.

Why can't ebay limit highest-risk stamps like the 315 (using an 80/20 rule that is consumer protective but also fair to all in the transaction). 315 and the likes would only be allowed listing that includes a bonified cert. Yes, dealers would have to obtain certs for these items (and adjust pricing - read more fees ebay) to sell on the platform. A reasonable cost for a safer stamp buying culture with little to no cost to ebay. Might even be a net positive for ebay. Less time working high fraud returns that brings in only short $ in fees due to lower prices of the fake at auction.

I cant sell all kinds of suff on ebay why not limit high risk US classic to safe the hobby and clean up the act for the future.

You are using logic again. Logic never works in these situations.

It's really very simple. ebay DOESN'T CARE. What happens on the philatelic pages is beneath their notice, the pay is too small. And dealers with no morals, no ethics, and no conscience don't care either.
