There are a few software programs out there that can assist stamp collectors..One is called "Shotwell Viewer"

It is a Linux program, but has a link for you Windows users..It is FREE for download (Nice to donate to the website if you want to)

I used a Scott 35vi for an example with the cork cancel..Look what it does...I think I showed this about 3 years ago to our American friends, but redid it again for new people on this forum just in case they missed it.

Hi Don..your stamp is not a coloured cancel, it has been placed there through a program like photoshop, etc...If you have a stamp with a true cancel I will see if I can eliminate it enough for you to see underneath.

You little bugger Don...haha

You almost caught me on that one..You dabbed BLACK magic marker on the stamp first and then covered it with BLUE magic marker...haha

Or from another program...Give me a REAL cancel on a stamp.

Robert

It would be interesting to see if you could eliminate the residual cancel by resubmitting the stamp on the right to the program.

Blacjag..It would probably work..I was trying to find the post I did a long time ago where I took a large stamp and put a RED dot on her neck..Then covered over top of the red dot with BLACK marker and when I did the magic, the red dot appeared underneath proving the software was not assigning the next closet pixel, but actually showing the RED dot..I will now try to find that post and apply a link to it.

Found that affect with queen stamp..Look under the 1973 and see the dot is exposed that I had hidden with BLACK marker.

Robert

Blackjag..Did as you asked for the right stamp below.

Wert,

If you look closely, you can also see that the software misread your red dot location. The large red dot that you placed on the queen stamp is mostly under the "9" and slightly towards the "7" of 1973. The dot that is exposed by the software shows a slightly smaller red dot that is centered under the "7", barely making its way towards the "9".

I agree with Don in that the software is seeing hue differences, and adjusting, as necessary.

This is not to say that it, and others like it, are very nice analytical tools, helping you to better visualize what is underneath that cancel. (Retroreveal certainly looks like it can make a difficult cancel stand out.) But I don't see how it can be used to look for varieties or errors with any accuracy.

Robert - Thanks for the second run-through of the stamp.

Regardless of the technical aspects, the second image does provide a fairly accurate representation of the actual stamp's engraved image.

Hi, can it be used to eliminate the stamp and leave just the cancel?

Sak...That is a black bar placed by what looks like a photoshop or Gimp software...Try a real cancel stamp.

I realize people are sceptical and try to fool the ability of this software and its ability to enhance the love of this hobby..If you dont believe it fine..Just a tool for people to play with...

Enough..On to my next post..

Robert

Here's one for you wert. I need to see details in the small oval at the left in order to plate this one. See what you can do.
