Gilles,

I do see the dot in D of CANADA but this dot appears to be black in colour so it may be part of the cancel. There is also no sign of the tiny dot in the upper right margin. Some others are saying it is position 57 based on the large dot in front of Cartier's nose and the position of the dot in the left oval which is just barely visible thanks to wert's postmark removal software. The short entry in the top right is also stronger in position 57 compared to position 87.

But still a good opinion.

btw - great job wert! and congrats on your 5000th post. A good one as far as I'm concerned.

Jimjung,
based on the size of the travelling dot in front of the nose, I would agree with you that this is most likely a 57, not 87

JimJung,
this one looks more like a 87. What do you think?

Jim Jung, Your stamp looks like position 87. The fact that you use the technique of using a very bold line in the circles tends to hide some of the detail. One would be better served with a nice description and no circles or a very fine line or arrow. I like seeing a whole uncluttered stamp when trying to identify it. It is a very nice copy and well done on identifying it.

Jim, Watermark, anyone up for the challenge of trying to plate all #19? I've got about 80 of them so help from the community would be valuable. With Wert's tool, this would be fun. Comments?
I'll probably start by starting a new topic.

To those who enjoy such image manipulation techniques, by all means have fun. I only like the stamp variety if I can positively see the identifying features by eye. If you're exhibiting, good luck trying to convince others that a rare variety is hidden under a cancel. If I sound harsh saying this, sorry but it is true. Reminds me of an old maxim in statistics - if you torture the data enough, eventually it will confess.
