I will write a few more- there are at least 7 more I have planned and I'm sure I can think of more. Advise please? Should each topic be it's own thread? Last time I posted (the third "chapter" it seemed like no one really noticed it).

A fascinating thread. It's easy to think that classic stamps are the only sort of stamps that could be rare but this show that that's far from the case. Thanks Shermae, please continue posting!

I was gone for a while and missed the original postings. I'm glad to see this come back around.

Rod had a thread on rare "common" stamps long ago...it was interesting, and popped back up in a few threads from time to time. I'll post it here, since there are lots of new faces since the first go-round:

Shermae, how do you know what year the Seychelles 25c stamp is? I have one of these but I don't know what year it was issued. It's the same one as your image.

Hi Eiger,

The reprints have a small imprint of the year at the bottom of the stamp.

Here are a couple of examples, 25c with "1988" and 50c with "1991":

Had a look in the online Michel, that stamp is catalogue no. 398 I, issued on 10.4.1978.

Thanks for the information, now I have even more stuff on my list of things to look for! I will be checking my Nigeria very soon, as I have those varieties sorted. The next big definitive set from Nigeria is still very open for new varieties! I will keep my eyes open, thanks.
