HI Guys Here Is A Sample Of Some Of The Stamps I Have Inherited.

I have inherited my fathers stamp collection, there are about 26 albums, 20 large and 6 small and I am looking for people that may know what some are worth or if they would be better kept for my children.

I may have missed something but I don't see much here of any value. This could be a good basis for expansion for someone wanting to start a general world collection.

I can't comment on all of it (I'm clueless on China for example). Overall the collection seems to be based on stamps that were acquired very inexpensively in packets and/or short sets. There may be other hidden gems but from what is seen here (e.g. Great Britain, India, Spain, Poland, Norway, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia) it would seem unlikely there is much monetary value. The stamps shown are either random common values, or short sets missing the higher denominations (where most of the monetary value tends to exist).

Two questions to ask yourself:

1- Did your Dad spend significant money building this collection? If you don't know, can you ask another relative? If he didn't spend money on the collection, it is very unlikely there is anything of monetary value. What goes into a stamp collection correlates to what comes out of a collection.

2- Are there one or more areas of the collection that seem to have had much greater emphasis based on the number and density of the stamps on their pages? If so, those might be areas where monetary value may exist.

From what I see, this is an excellent collection to build upon to help engage your children in an educational and rewarding hobby.

They seem to be what any collector would have in their worldwide albums and would not have cost much to buy originally. The value today would not be much more than what was paid back then. The GB ones you have shown would be worth only a few pennies in total for instance.
The exception is the China stamps. They have more than doubled, tripled or quadrupled in value. I see some in there that would be worth further research... especially the Mao stamps.

Thanks guys, I will upload some more photos in another post of some of the other stamps. Dad did spend money buying stamps, he also inherited some from his father. He didn't have a lot of money so anything he would have purchased would not have cost him much.

That is a wonderful collection. It's obvious that your dad spent a lot of time carefully, neatly attaching his acquisitions to his display pages. I can visualize his excitement as he found an unusual stamp in a packet, deciding what it is, and where it should go. Your dad must have gotten a load of fun and relaxation working on his wonderful collection. And he probably never gave a hoot about monetary value of the hoard. That's a true collector!

I suggest that you find a local stamp club, go to a meeting, and see if anyone can help you out with determining a rough value for the collection. Good luck.

sorry guys, iv been trying to categorise a lot of the stamps but have been busy studying. My aunt (dads sister) is in a stamp club in coffs harbour and she wants me to send them to her so the president of the stamp club can go through them, that is the overall plan for them as I have no idea what I'm looking at but am really enjoying looking through them. Dad really enjoyed collecting and it makes me happy going through them :)

It seems you have arranged a sensible means of getting the collection into knowledgeable hands. Its been a learning process for you, too.
