No amount of searching the internet has provided an identity for this 10 mills UAR 'stamp' so I suspect it may be a cinderella or plain forgery. Any help appreciated
The UAR at the upper left would stand for the "United Arab Republic", which was a union of Syria and Egypt from 1958 to 1961. Egypt continued to use UAR on its stamps until 1971. I would guess that this was a revenue stamp from either the UAR or Egypt.
Thank you to the people who have responded to my query. I thought I knew all about the United Arab Repuplic having been in Egypt at the time but the total lack of catalogue data still has me stumped. I agree with Shermae that the cancel looks odd as does the print on the stamp itself compared with other UAR editions. And as teh price is in mills it must be Egypt rather than Syria.
