Torla is a municipality in the Pyrenees Mountains glacial valley of the River Ara, in the province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain. Here is an image of an engraved stamp depicting a view of Torla, and issued by Spain in 1960 as one of a set of ten stamps in a tourism set, Scott No. 1354, plus a photo of Torla from a somewhat different viewpoint.

Volcanoes of the Hellenic Arc

Milos - Milos is a Pliocene to Holocene stratovolcano with no historic eruptions.
Nisyros - The last eruption of Nisyros were phreatic explosions in 1881-87. They left a moonscape with colorful craters and very active fumaroles.
Santorini - The eruption of Santorini in 1650 B.C. was one of the largest in the last 10000 years. The last eruption took place in an phreatic eruption on Nea Kameni island in 1950.

Beauties of our Homeland - Tatra Mountains

The Tatra Mountains create a natural border between Slovakia and Poland. They are the highest mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains. The Tatras are protected by the establishment of the Tatra National Park, Poland and the Tatra National Park, Slovakia.
The stamps feature the Small Cold Valley and Chalet at Zelene Pleso.

Bagana is an active volcano located in the center of the island of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, the largest island of the Solomon group. Here is an image of a stamp depicting Mount Bagana, printed by photogravure on granite paper, and issued by Papua New Guinea in August 1973, Scott No. 371, plus a photo of this volcano.

Opening of the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel
July 17, 1965
Mont Blanc, meaning White Mountain, is the highest mountain in the Alps and the highest peak in Europe. It rises 4809 m above sea level and is ranked 11th in the world in topographic prominence. The mountain lies in a range called the Graian Alps, between the regions of Aosta Valley, Italy, and Haute-Savoie, France.
The stamp shows (from left to right) Aiguille du Midi (3842 m), Mont Blanc du Tacul (4248 m), Mont Maudit (4465 m), and Mont Blanc (4809 m).

UNESCO World Heritage Sites - Mount Ngauruhoe, Tongariro National Park

Mount Ngauruhoe is an active stratovolcano made from layers of lava and tephra. It is the youngest vent in the Tongariro volcanic complex on the Central Plateau of the North Island. Ngauruhoe erupted 45 times in the 20th Century, most recently in 1974.

Definitives - Mount Erebus

Mount Erebus is the second highest volcano in Antarctica and the southernmost active volcano on earth. It is located on Ross Island, with a summit elevation of 3794 meters.
The stratovolcano has been observed to be continuously active since 1972 and is the site of the Mount Erebus Volcano Observatory run by the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

Stamp Day - Mountain Esja

The mountain Esja (914 m) is situated in the south-west of Iceland, about 10 km to the north of Reykjavík. It is a massif made from basalt and tuff.
The souvenir sheet provides a panoramic view of the Esja, with Kambshorn and Kerholakambur inside the stamp.

The Dedo de Deus ("Finger of God") is a 1692 meter peak whose outline resembles a hand pointing the index finger to the sky. It is one of several geological monuments of the Organ Mountains in Brazil. Here is an image of a stamp depicting Dedo de Deus, printed by photogravure, and issued by Brazil on April 14, 1962 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first successful ascent of the peak by the Brazilian climbers José Teixeira Guimarães and the brothers Américo de Oliveira (Acacio, Alexander and Raul Carneiro) on April 9, 1912, Scott No. 937, plus a photograph of Dedo de Deus.

Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world at 8,485 meters. It is located in the Mahalangur Himalayas 19 km southeast of Mount Everest, on the border between Nepal and China. Makalu is an isolated peak whose shape is a four-sided pyramid.

K2 is the second highest mountain in the world, after Mount Everest. Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli became the first men to reach the 8,611-m summit on July 31, 1954.
