So, starting to sort out my USA collection and I need both of these stamps for my collection, there is a huge range of prices on ebay and I don't know if dealers are any better. So my question How much is a good price to pay, for unused and lightly hinged or a light cancel? If anyone wants to swap I have lots of stamps!...and covers! Cheers |

Hi, my remarks are for the 214 only.
In his 1922 book "U. S. 1887 3 Cent Vermilion" by Dr. H. A. Davis, reports that about 82% of the output was used on parcels.
So, if you desire a used copy, try to obtain one from any city other than these: New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Toledo. Try to get other than parcel canceled example, but any other than the cities listed would be the best to get.

The registration fee for a registered mail is $15 in US. And an international package coast about another $6. That is why the shipping fee is so high. Firstly, the registered mail is very expensive in US/GB and some countries. But it is not as expensive in China/Hong Kong, ets. However, the registered mail is the cheapest way to get a tracking for international mail. Without the tracking, the buyer can file a claim of non-received item and the seller will lose. |

In fact, if the buyers and sellers trust each other and the postal service is fairly reliable, then the cost can be much cheaper. Using a plain envelope (so that it will be classified as a letter but not as a package), the shipping fee can be only $2-$3. I think for a stamp less than $30, it is ok to use the regular mail if Australia post office is pretty reliable. |
