Top one. In the bottom one plane is going too slow and may crash any moment.

Wow, that's a good point!I forgot about another centering problem -- the airplane! |

Quote: Wow, that's a good point!I forgot about another centering problem -- the airplane! It's not a centering problem... it's a variety, and more preferable than a centered one... Additionally, the LH stamp's centering is better than the NH |

The second stamp has a hinge remnant and possibly has a couple of small thins. A stamp with a hinge remnant, gum pulls or thins can never be called "lightly hinged". Unfortunately, many ebay sellers are unaware of the distinction between a stamp with a light hinge mark and all of the rest. Many also don't seem to understand that a never hinged stamp should have no marks or gum disturbances from a hinge or some other cause. |

The bottom stamp for me would be better. disi123 pointed out both reason. A nice stamp all around. |

I prefer centering more than back of stamp so I much prefer 2nd stamp. But that assumes there are no thins as cfrphoto points out. If there are thins and thus stamp is not sound, then I would go with top stamp |

Thanks for the comments. The second one does not have thins and those white spots are actually part of the hinge remnants. They are thicks not thins. :) |

The top stamp is much better. The centering difference is really not enough to matter seriously. The top is an 85 and the bottom is perhaps marginally a 90. Not enough to overcome the other problems it has. The plane in the top stamp does not go far enough to the left to be a "fast plane"; it's more like a "slightly ahead of schedule" plane. |

I prefer centering and would rate the top stamp f/VF... 75
Bottom stamp either 85-90 grade on centering
Obviously there are very different opinions here on what collectors preferences are as I respect all opinions |

I have to admit that I started from China Stamp Community in which we don't grade Stamps by certering. Interestingly, centering has never been a big problem since China government started issuing stamps in 1878. Much of the early issued were printed in London. I wonder if Europe grade stamps based on centering. |

I don't think that stamps are offered in Europe with a grading percentage, fortunately. Strictly a US habit. "Well-centred" or "very well-centred" suffices! |

Either would be just fine for me. Though I would pick the top no other reason than I like the extra. |

Selvage without a plate number or marking is just selvage, adds nothing in my book. I don't display the backs of my stamps either, #2 without question. |
