Hi all

Got this questionable Battleship Revenue stamp from the 1898 Series.

I have done some research, but now want to offer other members to see if anyone knows anything about the cancel?

Positive and negative comments in regards to the cancel welcome.

Fake. Guam was under the control of the Navy Dept. during the war, and there would have been no reason for US revenues there.

Hi revcollector, I agree with your posting.

If you are not busy, cue up "1898Revenues" web site. Then search "GUAM", an interesting article, in regards to "The Betel Nut Tax".

I'm a contributor to this website 1898Revenues.

Looking for more comments, any other member want to join in this cancel.

Again, I agree with you revcollector.

I remember seeing this one or one like this one on ebay recently (within the last 3-4 months). I don't remember what it sold for and I couldn't find it on a quick search of completed listings. Did you buy it on ebay recently?

RevHound, no, not recently, I remember it was purchased on ebay over a year ago.

What is meant by "I don't remember what it sold for and I couldn't find it on a quick search of completed listings", what is the completed listing. What does it show, why would one want to view this listing?

I also do not understand why anyone other than myself and the seller want to know what it sold for?

I don't remember which battleship stamp was overprinted with Guam, but it did have a Guam overprint very similar to the one shown.

I just thought you might be interested that there may be more than one floating around.

Hi RevHound, if you are interested look up the web site, "1898Revenues", then put GUAM in the search block.

An article about this cancel on the 1/8 cent is reported.

Check out this web site unless you already know about it.

I have posted many contributions to this web site, my name is David Thompson.

Take care, have fun in future collecting adventures.

I was looking for more information, have looked on the internet, but know there are collectors out there who know something and might be willing to share.

On ebay a check of what is being asked for a stamp and what the stamp actually sold for is invaluable information. A reality check for one on real world prices. It also guides me on bidding or buying stamps in all venues. I check the advanced feature on ebay all the time before I buy any stamp anywhere.

And yes, one must weed out the whacky pricing that sometimes happens on ebay. But still useful.

I really wish ebay would hold the "sold for" info far,far longer than is done at this time.

Thanks for the tip, stampmaster. Very interesting. Almost fell for the April Fool's joke, until I scrolled down the page. Was initially kicking myself for not putting a bid on the stamp.

Hi revcollector, I've posted 100's of cancels and related information about the 1898 Revenues there.

There is a lot of information.

John Langlois is very busy right now, with the current situation over in Kenya, someday he will start posting again, of course we all want it sooner than later, but the situation is difficult.

Since your know about 1898 Revenues site, what do you think about some of the plate varieties. Have you posted any varieties yourself there, or something else?

I also wish they would post what "Best Offer" was accepted.
