Also known as the "missing most of the stamp" variety, of a very common stamp (actually a wrapper).

Jim

p.s. Most decent dealers would consider these types of things as "trash," in my most humble of opinions.

Now I don't really have a problem with this. The dealer is starting out the lot at a penny with no shipping. Furthermore he hides nothing. He discloses that it has missing ends in the description. So, no problem. Remember one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Hi James Drummond, this is a area that I know little about.

I have a question, where each of these dated every month of usage?

My example is dated 1 May 1877. Your example is dated 1 Dec 1876 (not sure of the year), and the example is dated 1 April 1878 (again not sure of the year).

Do you happened to know how long these user used. Do you know if anyone has a census of these?

Mr. Master (stamp)

There are a great number of dates that were used on this particular issue.

Most are common, but some are rare.

Best bet is to consult Eric Jackson's website for more information.

My personal intention of this post is:

Either buy the whole stamp, or don't buy it at all.

I agree, if you are going to buy an example, always buy the best complete example you can afford.

Perhaps I should explain my handle "Stampmaster", its two conditions joined, sort of a short cut.

First part: Stamp, relates to me being a stamp collector (now for over 60 years).

Second part: Master, relation to be being an United States Air Force Master Sergeant.

So, put together the orientation is Stampmaster.

Hi Chief, as you are aware of, no need to thank me for me service, just keep sending me all those retirement checks. Keep the Class Six Store stocked up, keep the BX filled up!

I was lucky enough to be assigned to an Air Force Station on a Navy Base.
