Suggestions Requested For Correcting Incorrect Scott Numbers In An Inherited Album

I've inherited a "Scott National Postage Stamp Album" that leaves off with 1970 stamps. After checking some of the stamps near the end of the "Postage" section, I found some illustrations with incorrect Scott numbers.

For example, the #1406 and the picture shown in the album indicates it to be a Christmas stamp. #1406 is a "Woman Suffrage" 50th anniversary stamp.

The Christmas stamp is actually 1414.

I emailed Scott's customer service and asked if they had an errata sheet showing changes that were made in supplements to the original album. Their answer was that they corrected mistakes in subsequent supplements but they didn't keep a record of what was corrected. That wasn't much help.

What suggestions can anyone offer to correct this situation?

I would get a more or less current catalog and make the changes.

I have software that will print whatever I need to print and it's flexible, but the real question is, "How many entries are incorrect and which ones are they?"

If starting with Scott #1 and working my way thru today's stamps is the only way to do it, that is what I will do.

However, if there is a more reasonable way to do it, it would be very nice to find out before I undertake a complete forensic examination of the album.

I would ignore the errors. Why worry about it? What difference does it really make if the number is incorrect (or if Scott changed thr numbers after publication of your album? That's been known to happen. The 5 cent Franklin of 1847 wasn't always #1). The spaces are illustrated so you know what stamps go where and once the space is filled no one can see the number anyway.

Filechaser, you certainly make a good point because not all the positions have an illustration to go with the number that is present.

I believe I will take Filechaser's recommendation.

Therefore, I consider this thread "closed" and will not monitor it in the future.

Once you place a stamp on the space, I would correct the number. It would not show normally but there for later reference.
