Hi all

Here is a Beer Stamp with a clear perfect screw head showing!

I guess (and only a guess on my part) that the portion of the margin showing the perfect screw head was supposed to be removed from some sort of operation, after printing.

I have no interest in Beer Stamps (I do have an interest in Beer), every few months, would get one in a collection or somebody just gave me one or two.

Thought perhaps it would generate some comments about the screw head showing?

Also scanned the reverse side and then reversed the image to so the cancel so the orientation was readable. Just in case anyone is keeping a census of these cancels.

I believe that the screw head impressions are from screws having become loose; they were not intended to be a part of the design.

We see those on the battleship series as well. They are the from the screw that secures the printing plate in the flat plate presses.

Surprised no one has made a screw-loose in the head joke yet...

Interesting. I would have thought a screw head would have been a negative of what we are seeing here.

Gotta love that image watermark... not!

Hi all

Mention was made about Battleship Revenue Series of 1898, here is the best known showing the screw head. Previously posted from 03/31/2015. I have a few other examples, all on Revenue Stamps.

I can see on that image that the recessed area of the screw head is just too deep to be filled with ink.
