As I'm writing this post, I realize the stamp I have cannot be 24L2e. It lacks the three vertical re-cut lines in the upper left triangle that are listed for 24L2e... I'll post this anyway, maybe we can plate the stamp correctly. I thought this stamp showed a vertical line re-cut on the left side of the upper left diamond block.

stampcrow, I think the upper-left diamond block is recut with a vertical line as you suggested. That's a very heavy recut line at the top of the upper-right diamond block!
I have a #10A with a recut upper-left diamond block that I'll show A scan of when I can find it. |

The sticking point is, there are only two positions listed with vertical line re-cut upper left diamond block, both of those positions have line/lines re-cut upper left triangle. As we can see, mine does not...
The heavy line, at the top of the right diamond block, is why I assumed this was plate 2. |

I think recuts to the upper-left diamond block are more numerous than indicated to date. I suspect this may be because these recuts may not show until the plates get more worn. I have a worn-plate impression of a #10a with one vertical line recut on the left side of the upper-left diamond block as well as one line recut at the top. I'll try to show this in the morning. |

Thanks Gary.
Do you have an image of 80R2L? The images available to me have cancels that obscure areas I to make a match with my stamp. |

Stupid question... Is that even a #10? February 14th is quite late for one... |

Not a stupid question. I think the color is more likely a brownish carmine, 11A
But..., if it had plated 24L2e I wouldn't have been shocked, calling it an orange brown/reddish, 10A |

Looks like ink splatter to me, at first glance. This is an ugly printing. Here's a closeup: |

Now, this is what confuses me when it comes to plating...is it ink splatter? or is it common on that position? That is where I was going with a post last week with a LACK OF INK on a frame line. How is one to know if that 'irregularity' is supposed to be there or not? I assume that's where experience comes in. I have started plating and man it's challenging, somewhat time consuming, fun and rewarding. But it's also dang frustrating when you have a stamp that should be easy to plate and can't find an accurate match! |

It looks like ink splatter to me because the stray ink doesn't seem to form a double of anything. The two lines in the upper left of the T are curved, and the three dots in the bottom of the T just seem random.
To say that plating is somewhat time consuming may be an understatement. I've tried for up to six hours to plate a stamp without succeeding. |

I propose that Gary have a PLATING 101 class. I say that half-jokingly, but, then again... |
