I've been lurking on the site for a couple months, and I am very impressed with the depth of knowledge here. I'm also surprised on the civility of all the threads. It's rarely seen on the internet.

My Grandfather was a collector. He worked at a local paper company in the early 1900's, where the office workers gave him all the used stamps that came in the mail. He also collected world wide stamps that he'd order through the mail. I believe his collecting tended more towards hoarding,i.e., Quantity over Quality. Though, It's nice to have over a thousand stamps of one design when I go looking for varieties.

My father was mostly a U.S. collector. He primarily collected unused sheets, blocks, and individual stamps from the Farley period to the mid 1970s.

I collected World Wide and U.S. as a kid, 70's to the late 80's. Then married, house, kid, work... Collection went into storage during that time.

Currently in the process of organizing all three collections into one. Working on putting the best U.S. issues into Scott National Albums, and getting the best of the duplicates into stock books, with the overflow going into glassines. When the glassines can't comfortably hold all of a particular issue, I've been bundling them into stacks of 50 and stacking them into small boxes.

Slow process, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it, and finding a lot of things now, that we all missed back in the day. It's a lot easier now to research varieties, and sort through many of the classical series, with the wealth of information available online.

Oh!, and thanks to this forum, I'm looking into precancels too.... Thanks for the horde, Grandpa... lots of those little buggers in there to figure on how to organize.

Once I get the U.S. re-organized and up to date, I plan to tackle the world wide. Probably same as U.S. but with Steiner pages, that I learned about here. That'll be down the road a bit.

I'm a carpenter in Massachusetts, currently working as a timber framer. Have many other hobbies, mostly outdoors; hunting, fishing, backpacking, and peak bagging. Also have an interest in coins, though it's secondary to stamps, been very content working on a slabbed type set.

Figure I'd let you all know, who's been lurking here.

Thanks....
