I often refer to the Curtis Collection Census:

It is a great resource. My only complaint on the site is the quality of pics. The site only uses pics at 72 dpi. My question is why such low quality pics?

I mean no disrespect. I love the site. I just wondered if there was a reason they used such low quality pics.

Perhaps the census started at 72 dpi a while back when this was more viable (bandwidth and photo scanning technology). Then, once that standard was set, it became difficult to update to a better dpi. The old scans and the new would be at different resolutions.
