Hello,

Recently I purchased a bag of stamps from my local dealer. You realise how many stamps there are when you pour them out. I have roughly 2000 loose stamps. They are lovely stamps, quite a few keepers, but I simply don't have room for them all. I don't have endless money, so I have ONE stock book (32 pages). Although I will be purchasing another one soon, any advice on what to do when you have TOO MANY stamps?
Giveaway, Keep for future etc?

Thanks

First I'd sort them by country and or topic, ID any of interest and see what's there. That's half the fun of this hobby in my opinion. I'd give it some thought and see if there are any that I might want to keep or get into in the future...

Watch ebay for inexpensive deals on stock book or stock pages, even used come up frequently for much less than new. Album pages can be down loaded from the internet for free or a nominal fee from:

APS website https://stamps.org/Free-Album-Pages,
https://www.philosateleia.com/album/ and
http://www.stampalbums.com/free_us.asp

If giving them away or donating them - first I'd separate those that are damaged (if any). Put them in a separate marked envelope and include them as 'examples or place holders'.

My first pick would be a kid that might have an interest. It's a perfect opportunity to infect the next generation with the sickness... I mean introduce them to the hobby.

Second would be the kid's table at a local show. That's one of my favorite dumping grounds for low-value stamps that I don't need/want. The Boy Scouts, a local CAP squadron, The VA or a retirement home may be other good places.

I hope this gave you some food-for-thought,

Jeff

My father gave me a stamp album and a bag of about 500 loose stamps.
That was 60 years and a million stamps ago, and I am still putting away loose stamps everyday now.
A philatelist never ending story.

I concur with jconey and Timm, it's really a never ending hobby.

My story is similar, 56 years ago I kicked a shoe box in a church parking lot that was filled with stamps. Just recently, like this past week, I finally got 99% of those stamps sorted and in stock books.

If you choose to donate, along with jconey's thoughts, there are probably clubs or groups in your area what could assist you. Just google "stamp clubs" in your area.
