Hi all.
Pioneer Precancels were precanceled by the New York Post Office in 1879 with a design that is described as a ring of pearls surrounding a monogram consisting of the letters "N" and "Y". Three orientation of the "Y" are reports to exist. I've only found type 1 and type 2. I have never seen type 3 that had been reported in the 1939 "Handbook of Bureau and Local Precancels".
The ring of pearls precancel is either black or blue. I've never encountered or seen any other color.
As far as I'm aware, this ring of pearls has never been found on any other postage issue.
Asking members, does any member have an example of type 3, and could they show us all a right and proper scan of it?
Type 1 = The "Y" is pointing to the right (the long straight portions of the "Y".
Type 2 = The "Y" is pointing to the left.
Type 3 = The "Y" is pointing down.
