SO,

I have been chasing some of the few reds and greens I still need and there is a decent copy on ebay, but it clearly has a canx but is described as "US STOCK TRANSFER-GREEN, MINT, RD369, NG, 1952".

I think most of us can agree 99.9% of all "Mint NG" reds and greens are simply uncanx but used. Drives me crazy.

This particular stamp has what appears to be an inverted straight line black canx horizontally through the middle of the stamp. As far as canx go, it is as good as they ever get - just barely there! I prefer used reds and greens for the most part.

I point this out to the dealer. The dealer replies "you are seeing things that I do not", so I take the time to take his scan and circle the canx and send it back to him.

He replies "I see something but do not believe its a cancel, sorry. Get a cert"

Huh? It is your stamp dude - you get a cert and quit selling crap lots on ebay. Still want the stamp, but it is not mint.

This will come as no shock to many of you, but his name has been tossed out there several times in this forum for his inaccurate descriptions and dubious imperf and part perfs. I believe a few of you stated you refuse to buy from him.

Here is the pic from the ebay lot:

Here is what I sent him highlighting the canx:

I fully understand things happen and if you are trying to push a buttload of lots onto ebay you can miss things - it happens. But when a potential buyer points out your "Mint" stamp has a canx and you acknowledge you see something but refuse to change your mind?

MURMUR!

And I still need that *^&@#%@#)*!&@#& stamp.

Yep, I agree, that's definitely a used stamp.

This seller has "issues". He has been selling for many years, but apparently has never been wrong a day in his life. Even when he posts imperfs and part perfs that are clearly trimmed, mint stamps that are clearly used, and other assorted detritus that he thinks is gold. Best to avoid him entirely.

Pretty obvious that it is lightly cancelled. No need for a cert. Too bad he is unreasonable about it.

Hi, may I make a suggestion, on your scan use reverse video, or change scan to black & white image, then try reverse video. May not work, I find green stamps difficult to image cancels.

Also, sorry I do not understand what "Huh" means?

Good luck.

Hi Don,

I played around in RR as well trying to tease out the canx but just couldn't pull it out anymore than that.

Shame he won't simply knock some plata off his price and this one would proudly reside in my album!

revcollector,

It is simply a B&W version of the original scan.

What is fake?

You posted after my post about another mint stamp; I meant to write that on the post I made but did not. It refers to the "mint" roulette I posted.

You really don't have to do much to tell there is something going on with this stamp. I mean it sticks out in plain site. If I was looking for a mint stamp I would pass on this one period. I wouldn't even spend the time talking to him on this one.

Revcollector I don't study revenue stamps. Can you let me know what is fake?

OP: "I believe a few of you stated you refuse to buy from him."

These people have the right idea.

After all, the "mint" stamp I posted only has parts of SEVEN cancels on it. Easy to miss that.
