You'd think that the 1868 cancel would be the first clue...

Hi Jim

I'm confused (perhaps because I'm old), but you said "You'd think that the 1868 cancel would be the first clue...", who are you talking to? The dealer, or somebody else?

I agree that it can't be what it is offered as.

I searched the seller's store, he has way more coins than stamps. Suggest as you are so concerned contact the seller and let him know your concerns. I think new collectors should be warned about such material!

Its good you are looking to inform the uninformed collectors!

Good show, you are top drawer.

Honestly, mostly myself. I sometimes ask rhetorical questions.

Quote:
contact the seller and let him know your concerns.

A) He/she would probably just ignore me.
B) Potentially he/she would block me from bidding on future lots.
C) No one else would be aware of the concern but me and him/her.
D) It wouldn't be nearly as much fun as posting the item here.

Hi Jim

I see you points and agree.

If one is blocked, you have no recourse, just even to find out why.

Jim,

On a somewhat irregular basis, I do message the ebay lister of some of the first issue stamps. wcstamps has removed several yesterday. I referenced this blog site. He, at least, recognizes that it is not me, but several experts that are blogging to expose these altered stamps. Stamp Smarter is another way to expose these. And they report the results of delisting. Stamp Smarter was started as a result of the late Bill Weiss and his efforts to rid the market place of these altered stamps.
