The image on the left has the legend spelled correctly. The legend on the right ends with the word "OCEANIF" where what should have been a final E was replaced by an F. These stamps were part of a collection which was not touched since about 1912. Examination under magnification shows no suspicious rubbing, scraping, painting over, etc. Both stamps have perfs of 14 x 13 1/2.
Can anyone tell me if the right hand stamp is genuine? I have not found it in any of my limited selection of catalogs (Scott and Yvert-Tellier). Does some catalog perhaps have the "F-variety error" listed? If so, does the error increase its value?
Thanks for your help!
