I was a core member of SCADS back in the day, and I can share some insight on why the group may have faded out. ebay got more and more restrictive on members being able to contact bidders to warn them about mis-identified, altered, etc. stamps. They used to make user IDs public in the bids history for each lot, but they eventually got to the point where they masked bidders IDs to prevent any contact at all from concerned members. This made the work of SCADS futile, for all practical purposes, because 99.9 percent of the stamp fraud victims had no awareness of SCADS, because there was no longer any way of contacting them.

I have on occasions sent messages to sellers explaining why the stamp is a fake and the sellers remove them or put a discription such as "possible forgery".Now when the bidding has already started and the sum
starts increasing ;for sure it's too late.
I Suppose going through all the listings everyday for forgeries or mis described stamps is complicated and time consuming.

Classic coins is correct , they stopped contact to bidders thru the ebay system . But it also is true that inexperience collectors started to watch known collectors and other dealers on what they were bidding at . Lets say your a expert on Tibet and you bid on a common Tibet first issue a $20.00 stamp and your bid is $15.00 ,then I know your seeing something that I don't see ,that's when I start to bid against you because there is a reason your buying it .
It is also part of the story that SCADS failed because ebay and the APS made some kind of screwed up deal for $100,000 to assist in fighting fraud and identifying bad sellers . APS wanted to stick their nose further into the ebay tent but the higher ups at ebay close it down .
Another problem was the ebay Stamp Chat Room started to become a closed group who felt like it was their chat room and you were a outsider walking on their space .
So you can see a lot of different factors were all part of the reason for them to shut down ,it all becomes who you ask .

Up until recently I would spend 2-3 hours each weekend perusing ebay stamp listings for mis-ids, fakes, forgeries, regums and so on. I contacted sellers, reported items and tried to be very proactive. What a thankless and futile effort. For every 10 sellers that ignored me or told me to stuff it (in a nice way) one would actually do the right thing. I blame it on ebay. They promote that environment by making it clear that they will look the other way. Fees, fees, fees. That is all that matters. Look at the Cartel/ Philip Ryle.

rogdcam, do you think any of these sellers who ignore your feedback are APS members?

I find it interesting that few sellers mention any philatelic affiliation and some seem to hide their affiliations.

Angore - A couple of them are APS members. Two of them advertise in the monthly magazine and are pretty well known.

They may be ignoring you because they disagree with your opinion. Ignoring you doesn't automatically make them dodgy. They have the stamp in front of them, and you don't, so unless it's a truly black-and-white issue (and in that case show us and identify the sellers by name, please), perhaps they just disagree and think their ID and description is correct.

Why not name those couple of sellers who are APS members? If your opinions are backed by fact, there can be no defamation claim here.
