Agree, shade guessing on a computer is just that, so I won't go there.

Murty, Not sure why you suggest it is rare in the original post. 279Bd, orange red, type IV lists at 0.55 in my 2011 catalog. Unfortunately the poor condition (crease, corner damage, short perfs) relegates this to a study example as you obtain more type IV examples in other shades. It is an interesting stamp issue and well worth studying. Finding dated uses on cover will aid any shade study.

Hi, don't know if your are interested in watermark orientation, this issue is interesting, even on faulty examples!

First thing first does it have a watermark? Then certainly at least for me I need a better more detailed scan.

There is really a lot of good detailed information on the web that you may not even have to invest in additional information. However for me I find having a combination printed and web based resources are very helpful for this series.

Color to me on a post can be subjective.

So your stamp is interesting but from the scan and no watermark information I can not offer an opinion at this time.

I had to check for current pricing for a used stamp. In better condition than yours I have seen as high as $1.00.

Unused plate block of 6 stamps valued on the market between $200 and $300.
