Item A is not really a postal item, but an offering envelope. It has $8 on the outside. I was hoping to find $8 on the inside, but no luck.

Item B is a letter form USPS stating item ordered is not avaiable and a replacement item was sent.

Item C is Postage Due 10c stamped postcard.

Image 1: I couldn't miss the queasy irony of seeing a church offering envelope combined with an order for $6.66. I wonder what a U. B. church is? There are many Baptist denominations, but I don't know of any Universalist Baptists or United Baptists. United Brethren?

Image 3: The quotation from John Adams was a common cancellation for a few months in 2008. I saw many of them, most of which were far less legible than yours. Those sloppy inkjet cancellations have done more to ruin contemporary United States stamps for me than all the dopey (IMHO) subjects put together.

I think it is United Brethren as well, but I cannot find a Oakwood UB Church. The closest I can find is Oakwood United Methodist Church. Is is possible they switched as some point after 1936?

United Brethren merged with the Evangelical Church in 1946 to form a new denomination known as the Evangelical United Brethren Church (EUB). This in turn merged in 1968 with The Methodist Church to form the United Methodist Church (UMC). (copied from Google)

At one point, there were two denominations named the Church of the United Brethren. One of them did merge with the Evangelical Church, and the other one is still around. (American Protestant denominations can be confusing.) I did a search for the Oakwood Methodist Church, because some churches put a one- or two-page history on their Web sites and I thought someone there might get a kick out of hearing about that old envelope and this thread. But I discovered at least a dozen Oakwood Methodist Churches and confess to being somewhat daunted by the prospect of trying to discern which one might have been a U. B. church in 1936.

It is most likely the Oakwood United Methodist in Dayton because we found the envelope in a stamp collection there.
