Hi Friends
Given below is the images of a cover from Germany used in 1950 from Munster to Rottenburg..
Any idea about the elephant postmark on the front side and back side of the cover? was it an official postmark or being applied by some collector..
Why is the red cross applied on the cover..
You can also notice there are two postmarks of Munster on cover.
Thanks in Advance

I cannot imagine that the postal authorities in Germany would ever allow a postmark like this for use by its employees.

I volunteer at a school library and every once and in a while e have a "bookfair". Whenever a child buys a book we put a stamp in the front of the book, usually an elephant, a crocodile or a giraffe. The above "cancel" reminds me of the small stamps we put in the books.

Most probably a child got hold of this letter and used it as a piece of paper to put this toy stamp of an elephant on it. Maybe there is also a letter out there with zebras, chickens or Donald Duck on it.

Kind regards, Johan

If I am not mistaken, that cover is a first for me..........

The rear of the cover has been sealed with wallpaper.
I recall my father using that type of trimming when wallpapering filagree around a wall design in Engand in the 1950's

Heh!
A very British vogue during the 50's...and from what I see on Real Estate shows from Britain...still persists.
Very rarely see it in OZ.

I also recall fake wood graining, where one employs a "comb" type thing, on a wetly painted door, which gives fake wood grain.

PS: The first Balloon that took man into flight, used Wallpaper.
