This seller somehow came up with a catalog value of $2400 for the below item.

A mint (complete) pane of 50 labels is listed at $100 in the Scott specialized catalog. This is for the FX-NY1a(iii) variety, which is what this item seems to be.

A used example, on cover, is also listed at $100. Single, used examples are not valued.

So where did the $488 asking price come from?

Jim

How is this guy still in business?

Sheer inertia of sales to new collectors?

They have been around for decades. They also make mistakes at times, so people look at their listings regularly. Apparently they sell enough stamps and coins to stay in business.

I still take the time to contact Anthony's when I see a mistake or fakes (315's). They never respond = They could care less.

@MEMBERS, I like Anthony's, sure you have to be more careful today, but you have to be careful with all on line dealers.

Anthony's has a long history of having a moral compass that is in a spin.

Anthony's has made a living on collectors who think they can 'pick out the good ones'. I wouldn't buy anything from them because even if they have a good listing I wouldn't want to support them considering how they damage the hobby.
