Anthony's seems to be at it again. You can purchase the case stamp and 10 coupons for 190 Proof Alcohol from Anthony's for $100.

Or you can purchase one just like it from Eric Jackson for $15. Hardly a scarce item. These are all from the National Postal Museum's disgorgement of some of its enormous holdings of obsolete revenue stamps that had been transferred to them by Internal Revenue.

To be fair, although Eric prices this at $15, one was sold in a Siegel auction for about $250 with an estimate over $200 despite being told about Eric's price.

These were from lot number 1257 in Matthew Bennett's sale #308 on September 30, 2006.

There were 1,000 strips in the lot, and the lot sold for $1,035, which includes the auction firm's commission.

So the cost to the auction buyer was just about a buck each.

Considering that there is probably far less demand from collectors for one of these strips (i.e. supply far exceeds demand), even $15 seems high.

However, if whoever bought these a decade ago is just going to hold onto them, then there may be far fewer available for sale now than we all think.

But in any case, a hundred dollars is ridiculous.

Jim

To be fair, a total of 3,980 of these strips were disgorged by the National Postal Museum. A tax paid in that quantity for $250????

Let me tell you about the bridge I have for sale.
