This is a late usage of the 4c Columbian in 1897 used on a registered cover to the Christian Herald.

The cover emphasizes the difference in color between the ultramarine Columbian and the blue 1c Franklin.

Here are two registered covers with Columbian stamps on them, sent to the Larkin Soap Manufacturing Company.

The Larkin Soap Manufacturing Company was founded in Buffalo, NY in 1875.

John D. Larkin set up his factory at 196-198 Chicago Street. His only product was a yellow laundry
bar named Sweet Home Soap. The business expanded quickly and in 1877 Larkin bought two
lots on Seneca Street and built the first of many factories there.

By 1878, the company produced nine different soap products, including "Boraxine" soap powder,
"Jet" harness soap, "Oatmeal" toilet soap and Glycerine.

By the early years of the twentieth century, the company expanded beyond soap manufacturing
into groceries, dry goods, china, and furniture.

This 1893 cover was sent from New Haven, Conn. with a 5c Columbian to Honolulu, Hawai'i.
Hawai'i had a provisional government in 1893. It governed the Kingdom of Hawai'i after the
overthrow of Queen Lili'uokalani by local American and European businessmen in January,
1893 until the Republic of Hawai'i was established on July 4, 1894.

From the back of the cover we can see it traveled from New Haven on August 24 to New York,
then was routed to San Francisco and arrived in Honolulu on September 6.

It was assessed 25 centimes postage due. Apparently it was overweight and should have
been sent double rate.

I've never heard of that type of Strawberry. I'll have to check it out.

Thanks Tom! I tend to drink a lot of coffee. I had a coffee roaster setup in the fireplace but it stopped working. I need to spend some time fixing it.
