Hi :) I have just inherited a stamp collection that belonged to my grandmother, so have been having some fun looking up what some of the stamps might be (totally new to this) and was hoping someone could help me with this one. Any information about this stamp gratefully received - am guessing its a pretty common one but it seems to have gone an odd colour! Thanks in advance :)

It looks like it was on a purple envelope and when soaked, the color from the envelope was transferred to the white parts of the stamp.

Since the precancel is from Battle Creek MI it could be raisin stains from the Raisin Bran!

Seriously, the stamp was given an overall stain by something it came into contact with in its environment. It could also be a purposeful or natural chemical alteration. The purple envelope theory is a good idea; it was something along those lines most likely.
