I'm curious if there are any stamps related to the Volga River Area of Russia?

I'm a descendent of the Volga River Germans and would like to focus and area of my collection dedicated to my ancestors.

From Wikipedia, The Volga Germans (German: Wolgadeutsche or Russlanddeutsche, Russian: #1055;#1086;#1074;#1086;#1083;#1078;#1089;#1082;#1080;#1077; #1085;#1077;#1084;#1094;#1099;, tr. Povolzhskiye nemtsy) are ethnic Germans who colonized and historically lived along the River Volga in the region of southeastern European Russia around Saratov and to the south. Recruited (by Catherine II "The Great", as immigrants to Russia in the 18th century, they were allowed to maintain their German culture, language, traditions, and churches (Lutheran, Reformed, Catholics, Moravians, and Mennonites). In the 19th and early 20th centuries, many Volga Germans emigrated to Kansas, the Dakotas, California and other states across the western United States, as well as to Canada and South America (mainly Argentina and Brazil).

Any knowledge, information or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You can also try Leon Finik's site http://russianstamps.com. It's a bit clunky but he's one of the most reliable specialist dealers I have come across. The site doesn't seen to work on anything except a Windows platform, so forget trying to look on your mobile device or tablet!

Moyock,

there were a number of very interesting articles about the post in the Volga German area in the now-defunct journal "Post-Rider":

I will show one example of Volga German mail from my collection:

Notification of receipt postcard from Moscow to Ekaterinograd, Samara province. The monetary equivalent of $20 is paid out on 11/1 and the card is returned registered on 14/1, reaching Moscow on the 19th. Franked at the appropriate NOR rate of 12k (i.e registered letter rate) with a vertical gutter pair. The non-standard registration label is a blue-border insured-letter one of Ekaterinograd-on-Volga. Ekaterinograd is in the Volga German area – notice on the back the reference to "Marxstaadt", its then current name, as well as the inscription "Obl.Nem.Pov" (=Volga German oblast, i.e prior to its elevation into an ASSR).

I purchased a few 1921 Volga Famine Relief charity stamps recently.
2250 R. (1921 - Sc. #B14) - Green.
2250 R. (1921 - Sc. #B15) - Deep Red.
2250 R. (1921 - Sc. #B16) - Brown.
How do you tell if they are forgeries?
