Thank you both. Fascinating to learn that a copy of this forgery is "currently on exhibit at the National Postal Museum." Great to know the origin. I will add a note to my copy. |

What makes you think it's a forgery . . . ? Of course, it's possible this is the much sought-after "Depressed Washington" version of the stamp. Also known as the "Longneck Washington". Check out the length of that neck. Nice margins, though. This is actually a fairly well-known forgery of this stamp, or at least I've seen it before which suggests it is. |

It seems like you're referring to a well-known forgery due to features like the "longneck" or elongated depiction of Washington, which is a common sign in counterfeit versions. The margins might be nice, but the stretched neck is a giveaway. |

False overprint. False censorship mark. False cancellation. This appears to be a very prolific forger who doesnot speak Spanish. Also, this forger seems to be drawn to Seville, |

That is the article that helped me recognise this forgery that was included in a recent auction lot.
In this case, he even appears to have forgotten the 'tildes' in the overprint, in addition to those in the recipient's name 'Sr. D. Pérez,' and the 'POR AVIÓN.'
There is very little to find online about these official issues of the Canary Isles. I have been looking at some catalogues, but I cannot find any good description of the content of Spanish catalogues that list these stamps. The Edifil 'Unificado' has a very basic listing and is very incomplete when it comes to numbers overprinted - it looks like they print the number of complete sets as they define them - and date issued - it looks like they only list the first date a particular type of overprint they put in a set was released -. |
