The clown that made this one could become Spain catalogue manager with LastDodo. He used a stamp issued in 1937 for a very fake overprint from October 1936. This overprint was not used on that stamp, nor on its Republican predecessor.

It looks like the overprint might have been in a very deep green colour. Edifil 9 has a black overprint on the earlier 2 cts. Republican stamp. This, however, has an additional line "CANARIAS" directly above the value. There exists an additional stamp (Edifil 9A) with that same overprint in a bright green colour on the Republican predecessor of this design. Maybe this clown tried to forge that one, using an earlier overprint, in too deep a shade, on the wrong version of the stamp.

Of course, the quality of the overprint shouts "FORGERY."

The other stamps in his listing are fakes as well. This one, from the same listing, is hilarious. If your overprint is too high for the stamp, rotate the stamp.

No, I do not. Tetuán is not my collecting area.

I do not know if Spanish overprints for Tetuán are considered "Spain" by Graus.

If FAKE cancellations count as forgeries -- here is a total fake.

The stamp is a Scott #11 -- position 38L4. The earliest known usage from plate 4 is March 28, 1855 -- yet the stamp has a blazing red 1853 year dated cds cancellation.

@ioagoa - good catch on that one. That stamp looks somehow familiar to me - maybe I'm imagining though. Was it in one of Wade Saadi or Jim Allen's sales by chance ?

Without the plating, that could probably pass as a dangerous fake, unlike the 90c stamp above, which is good for laughs.

That Scott #11 --position 38L4 -- was something that I saw when cruising the listings on HIP stamp. The seller was somebody I have known for decades -- and who I believe to be honest -- but definitely not a 3c 1851 specialist.

When I first saw the stamp it really caught my eye -- as I am not aware of any 1853 year dated cds cancels other than the well known black New York cds that was in use for a very short time in July 1853. Consequently, I asked the seller for a 1200dpi scan and plated the stamp.

I let the seller know that he had listed a fake -- and he immediately withdrew the lot.

If the stamp was in either the Jim Allen or Wade Saadi sales -- it was surely part of a balance lot as I do not recall it being a single lot listing. Now you've got my curiosity up -- so I might try running a quick search on those sales to see what, if anything, pops up.
