Hello! Once again I need you help and expertise.. I found this strange stamp.. I know the kirilic letters, but I don't speak any slav language therefore I don't know what language or country it comes from. It says "the hram of Saint Savas". The word "hram" that exists in romanian and in the slav languages through the ortodox area means the patron saint of a specific church. It could be a found rising stamp for a church.. Also I have never meet the concurrency "#1087;#1103;#1088;#1103;". it could be the turkish "para" that was used in all the Balkan Area where there are al lot of slavic populations, but I have never seen it written like that. I presume it is from a former Yugoslavian country. Any ideas?

Thank you! The information is not of use unfortunately. Saint Savas is important in all the ortodox countries, including Greece. Since it is written in the kirilic alphabet it has nothing to do with Greece (except mabe the origin of the saint). Bunt thank you for the help :) |

Sobo, we have an unknown Romanian stamp, are you aware of any Romanian specialists we can contact for identification ? any bloggers etc?
We have emailed romanianstamps.com, without success (1 month so far)
Thanks.

it is Serbian, charity fund raiser for the building of the Temple of St. Sava in Belgrade. based on my research, this issue was probably made during the first incarnation of the temple funding, most likely between 1895 and 1912. |

Bravo ! Kuhli. this one had me beat. I had checked all Yugoslav cinderellas. I thought the cross was at a jaunty angle, so moved on to Hungary. Is it possible to translate the script? esp the Currency, so we can ID similar in the future. http://sajkaca.blogspot.com.au/2008...rade_24.html |

Rod,
the page you linked to above is my page, for my personal collection. The stamp from the original post is not in my collection yet, as right now I am focusing on some different areas (especially the "fair labels" from the Zagreb Fair, Ljubljana Fair and others). The OP issue is fairly common, and several of my Serbian contacts have it readily available, with price ranging from $3-10. I do hope to acquire one, but with my limited budget, I am trying to be a little more selective with my purchases.
Scott
btw, the translation is "For the Church of St. Sava", with the denomination of 5 para. |

hello rod222! it is amazing that I have seen now that you sent me one year ago a question regarding Romanian stamps.. I am very sorry that I didn't see it earlier but unfortunately I don't know how to use this forum yet. :) the stamp that you send is part of the Romanian series "wheat spice" from 1893-1894.. except the perforation error it has a strange color.. the normal color is blue / dark blue, not grey..Maybe it lost the normal color because of the sun or because of a contact with vinegar or another chemical substance.. If I can help some more don't hesitate to give me a direct email to: *** Private information removed by Staff. Please do not post your address/email/phone number etc. *** |

Thank you Sobo, Whilst I respect you opinion, I cannot agree at this stage. I do not see chemical or light damage to this colour.
I sent the image to Romaniastamps.com, but did not get a response.
Thanks for responding, it remains a query in my book.
