Here's another listing on ebay with an Alan Miller Certificate. Certificate states genuine #19 used with red cancel. First the red cancel is most likely fake. Second this stamp is from position 59R4; so it's not a Type Ia, it's actually a #22 Type IIIa.

See anything interesting about this particular scan?
Hint: look at the first scan in this thread.

This scan is courtesy of Deep Cert, who had it lying around, and just noticed this.

Specifically, quoting Deep Cert:

"Guess what I then found among my scans of 59R4: the "before" version.
Bill Weiss had sent me the "before" scan on 8/11/15, as I used to expertise for him on his certs. The "after" scan now has a red cancel added and reperfed sides."

"The culprit here is NOT Bill Weiss, but is perhaps the dealer who had submitted the stamp to Weiss (or a later owner). The Alan Miller "cert" is dated a year later, 11/14/16."

Deep Cert of course, identified this correctly as Ty IIIA, Scott #22, position 59R4 for Bill. Bill's cert would have had all of that information on it.

This kind of just makes me

Wow. Amazing to see the transformation, cancel added, perf work done, etc.
this is one tough hobby! Great lesson on how a stamp can be altered.
Thanks for sharing. Who is the culprit? I'm pretty sure most of us are thinking the same.

The chain of ownership should be easy to reconstruct; but I doubt it will be.

Don,

I can only think of one way and that would be to find out who submitted it to Bill. Is that what you are thinking?

Maybe APS should be investigating why certs with their initials on it are fraudulent?

A @%#@&% crime.

One can hope that threads as these and the internet availability of scans and certs in general would serve as a deterrent to those contemplating such mutilations.

I cannot judge these but if he is a member of APS and ASDA someone should file a complaint.
