Can anyone point me to a comparative scan of Australia SC# 1186 (typography) and SC# 1186a (Lithography)?

Thanks!

You may wish to download both images, and toggle using your mouse, to see differences.

Just curious but why were they printed in lithography and
typography ?
Different printer?

Also I can't think of any printer that still
used typography to print stamps in 1990.

I do not have text to confirm LG, however, I think you are correct.
One firm Pemara, printed the coil stamps?, and another Snap? printed the booklets.
That's how I recall it, but a bit hazy. Don't quote me.

I'll chase it up.

All rolls.

43c Skateboarding 27th August 1990 -Letterpress by Premara labels.
Issued in rolls of 100, 200.
Reprinted 4 times = 1,2,3 and 4 Koalas

(Last letterpress Skateboarding ergo 1992)

43c Skateboarding (1992) ( 1 Kangaroo = 5th printing) = Photolithography by Printset-Cambec (Scott quotes this as issue date 1991)

Thanks for the info Rod.

Would these have been the last Australian stamps
printed by typography ( letterpress)?

Not so LG.

We had the "Across town" Postage paid labels 14th June 1991 (Perth Issue Date)

Then the "Boxlink" peel and stick 30th March 1992

Then Automatic Teller machine Sheetlets 2nd November 1994
(Letterpress with copper foil) Premara Labels

That's about it, to 1997, mainly Litho, but 3 sets of Intaglio 1991-1997

Suggestions not exhaustive.....only what I can see at the moment
Aussie specialists would possibly be able to assist.

I'll give you a bell if I see any others

Sc# 1399 1994 Letterpress with Copper Foil..........

Would it be possible that Australia Scott 1186 and Scott 1399
were printed by letterset not letterpress (typography) ?

See a previous thread on SCF

https://goscf.com/t/17709&whichpage...ms=letterset

Letterset is similar to letterpress (typography) but
indirect relief therefore offset printing.

Anything is possible LG,
Your query is beyond my knowledge or capability.

Checking differing Catalogues...........
Sc#1399
"Seven Seas"
"Printed by rotary letterpress by Pemara Labels Pty Ltd, Gold Foil kangaroo symbol applied in line on the Ko-pack process"

"Comprehensive Catalogue"
"Letterpress with Copper foil Kangaroo by Permara Labels"

Hope that helps

Sc#1186

"Seven Seas"
Printed by Rotary Letterpress by Pemara Labels using a nine colour Kopack continuous web rotary machine in rolls of 100 on Jac-PS stamp paper manufactured by Jacpaper Australia Pty Ltd, Backing is siliconised glassinated paper. Rotary cutting tools shape-cut the stamps with simulated perforations.

Cheers
