Could almost clamp that to a tire to get traction in the snow.

Hello Mr. Nickel,

That is definitely a fake roulette.

As are sadly many, many other examples from this seller's inventory.

Jim

This one may be worse?

By the by, I believe this seller and NY Stamps are one in the same. If memory serves me, they have the same address (Flushing, NY).

I have purchased many decent stamps from CK. A few sleepers even, but these are some of the worse I have seen from them in along time. NY is always a no go, but so many bid on their items too??? I do look forward to the "shameful" posts from Jim. This one was for you!

The first example was cancelled 1878, much too early for a genuine roulette.

Ron,

What year should we be looking for as the earliest? Did they all come out at he same time or was their different years for different denoms?

Thanks!

Both are awful fakes. Much too small, badly shaped, uneven, everything about them screams fake, so take your pick.

While they (C K Stamps and NY Stamps) share the same city (Flushing,NY - population 72,000) they are not the same company or the same person. They both buy very large collections and sell on E-Bay, but are not the same people. They sell the world and use other people to describe their many items. They operate the way many large auctions did. The person describing the material is normally not the owner/buyer. On this Forum you have people who are knowledgeable about tight areas. The people in question are generalists. During my years of handling stamps I have made mistakes about non-US stamps for the same reasons that you see their mistakes about specialized US items.

C K stamps recently asked for my opinion about the 356 single with the Alan Miller certificate. He told me the stamp was part of a collection he had purchased with a number of Alan Miller certificates and that he did not seek out Miller's opinion. This makes me think he is an honest E-Bay dealer who is trying to do the right thing. I have talked to other people who have had dealings with him and they have the same opinion.

I agree the rouletted stamps look bad.

Roulette's were relatively late, 1881 or later.

Flushing is a neighborhood in the borough of Queens, not a city. Part of NYC.

Flushing is currently a part of the borough of Queens, but at one time was a separate city (pre-unification). When I lived in Rego Park (a section of Queens) one would talk about Flushing as a distinct area or city. Please excuse my lapse into old terminology. A further inspection will show that this particular section of Queens has one of the larger commercial sections of the City of NY which is perhaps why both sellers are located there. It has commercial space for rent. I do not want to spend time splitting hairs. My point was that they are not the same sellers.

Pre unification means pre 1898. That's a long time ago. I lived in Flushing 30 years ago; everyone talks about Flushing as a distinct area because of the shopping. But Rego Park or Astoria or College Point or many other neighborhoods are spoken of the same way in the outer boroughs.

The handwriting on the 102 cards is definitely the same, but that could be someone who preps auction lots.
