I use to get approvals from 49er Stamp Company back in the early/mid 1990's, but they are on ebay now. |

Cynical: Yes a great book, I like the way Americans present a lot of their information, or at least did once upon a time. Easy to read with structured notes. AFAIK this book sold for $2.45 in its day.

I've got a Seth Perkins glassine. Also this little pink H.E. Harris envelope I must have received some stamps in. I used to order stamps from them a lot. |

Mentioned earlier in this thread was the Garcelon Stamp Co. of Calais, Maine. Here's a period example of their approval sheet which I found on the internet: |

I remember my first taste of approvals from the "Empire Stamp Company" in Ontario, in the early 1970's. |

You can see from the approval sheets than the MNH craze had not yet hit as late as the 1950s. Which makes one wonder where all the MNH older stamps are coming from! |

Quote: there were quite a few approval dealers out of New Hampshire. I was thinking the same thing. I also remember G.O.B.E. out of Saco, maine. Maybe the taxes there were good for selling stamps or something, sompared to New York or elsewhere? Or maybe they were inspired by Harris, spin offs of his or lost employees? Wonder if there is a book on the history of stamp dealers and all the related topics like income taxe and such? probably not enough sex and violence to sell and make money. |
