Regarding the 2nd 8R1L picture in this thread - I agree that there is definitely a decent chance of an attempt to deceive here, as the bottom line looks like it has a bunch of parallel vertical strokes through it, possibly in an attempt to lighten it. I can't be 100% sure though.

It would require an in-person exam to verify this -- as we'd have to see if the paper has been scraped, which is often hard to do from a scan.

On the PSE cert, doesn't Bill Little spell his name with two T's ?

Maybe I'm wrong.

Bill Crowe - does that PSE cert earlier in this thread seem ok to you - I mean the cert itself, not the obvious fact that its incorrect. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Litle spells his name with one "t". The cert looks like it is typical for PSE certs from that time period.

My only hope is that the two victims are the same ones that would not buy from me because I don't get my stamps certified and I refuse to bow to the expertizers and pay their outrageous fees.

At least one person was bilked to the tune of about $7400 while the expertizers raked in nearly $2000.

We are talking about $200 worth of stamps here!

Well, I better be a good citizen and see if I can find a bad NYstamps lot on ebay to about...

Great ID guys. So much packed into this thread.

Sinclair, love your response. For your daily NYStamps how about this "79 Mint OG" block of 4 with grill rows about as straight as my 3 yr old's drawings:

Also, the gum is characterized as "skipped"...as in trying to skip an entire stamp?

I'm just on my phone and not really my area of expertise but that could be genuine example of a "music box" grill essay.
