I was wondering what other Franklin Platers think about these 2 stamps. I believe they're both from Position 8R1L, Type IV; Recut Twice Bottom.

Jmt, txstamp... ? Now I'm confused. Please teach. Bottom stamp is double certified as 5a from PF and PSE. I recognized it from previous research. I still don't see recut obvious. What is going on?

rgstamp, no I don't own that stamp; I just noticed both stamps tonight. Both stamps I first posted sure look like they're from Position 8R1L, not 8R1E. Looks to me like the bottom line has been lightened/scraped/altered in some way. It is a sharp stamp, but $6500 is a bit steep for a #9 Type IV!

Another "holy cow" moment.
Whoever bought that 6500$ stamp from Siegel is not going to be happy!
I agree... looks like possible scrape of lower outer recut line to give appearance of no recut.

Other stamp is more obvious 8R1L. Can't believe PSE missed it in 1999!

I can't believe it either! I found the one on ebay a while back & thought it looked like a Type IV. I noticed it again tonight & when I went searching for 8R1E, the other stamp is the very first one that popped up! It's also missing the line/design, below the curved line.

Reminds me when Sinclair told me to stay away from a type III 21 with two certs because of a scraped or altered bottom outer line. Still owe him bottle of bourbon for that

But the recut at top is different. From the OP, the bottom has a double recut at top, and its longer recut starts and stops at different places from the other stamp, to my eye.

Hybrasil...neither stamp is "recut at top". Top row stamps from plate 1L are never recut at top.

Some of these top row stamps look recut at top but they are not!!
