Apparently, it is worth $2300.00 plus 18% = $2714, since that is what someone paid for it. Crazy! One could buy a really nice set of zeppelins for that! |

Crazy! Add to this the fact that the $2300 represents the WINNING bid. There had to be more than one collector willing to spend over $2000 for a line pair that catalogues for less than $5 in VF condition. |

You are so right. And we are not alone in that assessment, despite the old cert and the previous owner, Larry Lyons, who I know fairly well and who had a great revenue collection (Shreves January 2000 auction). |

The 2 cent pair might possibly get a 100, the other two would probably only get a 98. :-) |

Woot! I've hit the lottery with the three of them! What did I pay for them? Hmmm...$19.38. Potential profit? ....
Who am I kidding? I'm not going to waste the time and effort to get them certified. I know what they are, I know that they're very well centered and that's good enough for me.
Maybe when I'm diagnosed as terminally ill, I'll send them (and a bunch of others) off for certs to help my daughter get the most from the collection when I'm gone, but I will enjoy them until then. |

Lot 1175 .. If I had had that pair, I probably would have mailed it. The consignor is clearly smarter than I am. Does this mean that the future is in buying up postage lots?
I have zero problem with great stamps getting great prices.
Does that mean that this pair should now be considered 'great'? |

I have no problem with "great stamps" getting great prices either, but these are not "great stamps". They are simply too common for anyone to busy themselves looking seriously for gradable pairs. They would not be in postage lots anyway; even ordinary line pairs are worth enough not to use up for postage unless damaged. |
