I'm not buying it w/o a current cert. I do buy from this seller in no reserve auctions so I have been Assuming he always puts out quality items. He allows extensions noted at check out only but no fakes to date on classic stamps purchased and sent to PSE.

What does this knowable group think? The last coil was impressively ripped apart on so many levels. Wow.

I'm thinking this one is a much harder call?

Your option Please.

Thx

YoP

George looks as if he has a black eye and a bruised forehead.

Most collectors of coils collect them at least in pairs. It is much harder to prove that it is genuine when you have a single.

IMO, the perfs look possibly added (reperfed from an imperf to look like a coil). On the left, they are very "clean" (real perfs usually have a rougher appearance due to torn paper fibers) and on the right, the distance between the edge of the design and the perfs seems to wander--greater in the center, closer in the edges). I don't see enough to say it's definitely altered to look like a coil, but it is another that raises questions for me.

Agree with lukusw's observations. Some caveats though:
- breaking up a dry brittle (old) coil pair or strip can give very clean perf tips
- the pins cutting real perfs can leave a very clean inside perf on one side of the column of holes and a rougher side opposite often with minute paper pulls; so this stamp's left side could possibly be the cleancut side. However, the right side is very clean as well, not a good sign. That the perfs wander so much is bad, as lukusw notes.

Now, taking a cheap used 2c stamp from an old accumulation and matching the design size carefully gives:

So, I think the perforation matchup at the left is really good. Genuine perfs, I would say, though the 4c could still have been made from a straight edge stamp.

The right side uses the same 2c turned upside down. It's not a match. It's been reperfed in a slightly different gauge, as typical.

EDIT: Seller has a lot of [your word here] to link to his own "how to detect reperfed and regummed stamps". We'd want a look at the gum side, too.
