I have this penny black with a vertical straight line watermark on the right side edge (left side on the back). Is that normal?

NL tells us that it is the Nth (14th) row, "L" (12th) column, or from the rightmost side of the sheet. The line is part of the papermakers sheet watermark which shows up occasionally on margin stamps.

There is normally a margin to the sheet as you might expect (cut off here), and the sheet watermark is usually found there. There is also the watermarked word POSTAGE that shows up twice on each vertical side.
