Here in NSW if you need stamp experts Philas is the only place to go & they have helped me out plenty of times .

Hi Aussie Al

Will be heading there in the new year, have heard nothing but good news about Philas House. Could end up bumping into you.

Rob

A gentleman by the name Lance Skinner helped me out with my KGV Penny Halfpence Red die 2s when I became obsessed with them & can't thank him enough for his knowledge & help . Also thanks to Philis for reporting some of my finds.

Difficult area to get obsessed with, I'm sure they will help me in other areas of my collection, if not the cracked plates. I've always wanted to go to Philas, it is definitely a New Years resolution I will keep.

Die 2s have it all

Rare plate 1a is a bit of a mystery & hard to ID . Then there is the Void corners , Re-Entries , Scarce imprints ,Different papers & shades

Plenty of varieties plus most are still affordable .

You'll need an album just for one particular KGV.

Incredible! It looks like I'll have to make a lot of room for more albums when I complete the KGVI and QEII collections.

I expect that this type of expansion will continue. In 1950, my father worked from ACSC barely a quarter of an inch thick. My 1988 ACSC fits into a binder with plenty of room. My 1996 version is crammed into the same sized binder even though it no longer includes QEII decimal. And since then, high resolution scans allow us to see more and more varieties far more easily than in the past, hence the breakdown of ACSC into many volumes.

I can see the KGV edition of ACSC getting bigger as more discoveries are made. I heard from the grapevine that a new edition of the KGV will be published sometime next year with many new entries, but it is only a rumour.

That's good to know, Rob. I am thinking of upgrading from my old ACSCs. KGV would likely be my priority as I have a fairly large accumulation of sidefaces. My father went through all of these in the 1940s and 50s with only the then meagre ACSC to help him so there could a mother lode of the last 60 years' discoveries waiting to be mined.

Frank.

ACSC only lists a handful of varieties & doesn't cut it for the specialist collector of Roos & KGVs.

Just for my KGV 1½ red die2 I use 5 specialist Catalogues .

Al:

What are your t catalogues?
Which do you consider the best?
Which is the best for KGV sidefaces in general for someone with a limited budget?

I'll take your word for it, I haven't gotten right into the KGV stamps yet, still working on the KGVI and QEII at the moment.

That's a lot of books for the 1½ red die 2, that's a powerful challenge, I most likely will start on the roos after I finish my current projects.
