Hello,
was wondering if in the US you can exchange in the post office, large amounts of small face value stamps (MNH) with a larger value stamp.
Here in Switzerland I can go at the post office with 30x.010cent stamps, and exchange it for one 3.00 CHF stamp(it takes less space for postage).

For what you describe, no.

US rules for exchanging stamps are here:

Here in the US older lower denomination stamps routinely sell for less than FV. There would be no incentive if they could be exchanged at the PO for FV.

UNSANITY ---Don't think the Post Office and the next customer wants to lick your stamps, plus a accounting mess not worth the time and effort .

floortrader,

Do you have the same scruples with respect to purchases of discount postage?

I know the General Post Office in Sydney will exchange or even refund stamp purchases if they are still in the unused original box or package.

I don't think it goes the same way with over-the-counter stamps once the customer leaves the post office.

The USPS cannot even perform their primary task of moving the mail efficiently. Figuring out exchanging stamps would melt their teeny brains.

As far as I know the US post office no longer accepts stamps in trade. This change started when most stamps switched to self adhesive.

It's a pity to understand, that most countries don't work as efficiently as Switzerland. I know pretty well, as I've been there, live not so fa away (just 800 km)in a Spanish kingdom which lays at the antípodes, in every way of life, of Switzerland. Lucky Swiss people!

I think that if you buy stamps from the USPS through the nail, you may exchange them. But you really do have to wait for them. Slooow!
