I have been putting a lot of QEII stamps under the microscope (or rather, high definition scans) lately and have found very little that varies from the norm, so I am under no illusion that I have a missing colour. SG494, however has got me stumped. Where are the areas blue ink? If I had to guess, I would say in the greenish looking areas of the background around the turtle. Confirmation would be appreciated.

On my screen I see some blue just to the right of the leg on the bottom picture

Can't help you there, I'm partly colour blind, mixed colours are a nightmare to me.

Frank.
Identical to my example.
I would suggest confirmation of the blue mottled background under the turtle.

Thanks, Peter and Rod. Yes, I can see the faint traces of blue now that it has been pointed out. So I guess I was correct in my gut feeling that the blue is what creates the mottling over the brown background.

Rob, the KGV sidefaces must be a real problem for you.

Frank.

And that's saying it mildly itma. A few years ago I bought a set of KGV single watermark stamps in MUH and beautifully centred (23 stamps).

I had the specialist place a little tab beside each stamp explaining the colour of that stamp, I first write them up in my personal catalogue in the order the tabs are in, then I place the stamps in the same order in the album, making sure I do not accidentally mix them, and that is where they stay.

It is not just a problem but a monumental nightmare.
